The company is owned and operated by Alaska resident Andy Kucich. Andy has been in the guiding business for over 14 years. As with younger guides he started at the bottom and learned from those with more experience. For a few seasons he polished his skills guiding hunters in northern Canada, until he made the move to Alaska. The small business was born in 1997 in Fairbanks as a partnership and is now solely owned. Alaska Backcountry Touring provides wilderness adventure for active people in remote and wild places in Alaska. Andy has always been dedicated to provide well prepared quality trips with a highly personalized service to only small group sizes. Besides running the business and guiding trips, he enjoys fishing, climbing, skiing, dogs and being out in the woods. He still works a few weeks every fall as a big game guide to have an additional income and to get the needed meat supply for the year. Leaving no traces and having as little impact as possible are very important to his philosophy.
